Though their courtship was complicated by their differing social classes (and later by interference from Morgana), they were ultimately married in the final episode of series 4. As of Arthur's death in the series finale, Gwen is now his widow and rules Camelot in his stead.
Merlin spends a part of his life as a madman in the woods and marries a woman named Guendoloena (a character inspired by the male Gwenddoleu ap Ceidio). He eventually retires to observing stars from his house with seventy windows in the remote woods of Rhydderch.

The child most frequently associated with King Arthur is his wicked son–nephew, Mordred, by his half sister, Morgause. Usually, the affair is arranged by his half sister Morgan le Fay without Arthur's knowledge.
Most notably, the showrunner confirms that Merlin and Arthur did indeed grow to love each other by the end of the series, calling it a “pure” love. “We did, very genuinely, think of the episode as a love story between two men.
In earlier versions, she is taken by Melwas, king of Aestiva Regio, and has to be rescued by Arthur himself. In Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae, she is seduced and abducted by Mordred, Arthur's nephew or illegitimate son, and forced to betray Arthur.
In Malory's Morte d'Arthur, Mordred is the illegitimate son of Arthur and Morgause. When Arthur, who is unaware that she is related to him when they sleep together, learns that he has had a child by his half-sister, he attempts to kill Mordred by condemning all the children born on May Day to be set adrift on the sea.
Who does Guinevere end up with?
Following the battle, Arthur and Guinevere are married by Merlin in a ceremony at Stonehenge.
When Arthur reveals that he intends to leave Camelot with Gwen and later return and take the throne, Morgana decides to frame Gwen for casting a love spell on the prince. Uther sentences her to death, much to Arthur's fury and Morgana's amusement.
Some iterations of the Arthurian legend include a story of how Arthur inadvertently slept with his half-sister Morgana (who was magically disguised) which produced his infamous son, Mordred.
Morgana catches up with Merlin and Arthur and drives their horses away, but she is killed by Merlin wielding Excalibur.
Morgana, also called Morgaine or Morgan, is a staple figure of the Arthurian legend. Her relationship to Arthur varies but usually she is introduced as Arthur's half-sister, the daughter of his mother Igraine and her first husband Gorlois, the Duke of Cornwall.

King Arthur Sleeps with His Sister
Uther Pendragon, King of England, lusts after Igraine, the wife of Gorlois. Uther fights a war against Gorlois (in which Gorlois dies) and Uther tricks Igraine into sleeping with him.
She is seen by the people of Camelot as a devoted supporter of her husband's deeds and ideas. Even after she betrays Arthur by having an affair with Lancelot, Guinevere regrets the betrayal and stays with Arthur, devoting herself to no other man even after his death.
Later versions of the story extended Lancelot and Guinevere's love into a full-blown affair, which in the end brought down the Round Table and ushered in the end of Arthur's reign when Lancelot rescued the queen, who had been condemned to burn at the stake, and in the process killed several of Arthur's knights.
Who betrayed King Arthur by sleeping with his wife Guinevere?
In the medieval legends about King Arthur of Britain and his knights, Lancelot is the greatest knight of all. In time, however, Lancelot's love for Guinevere, the king's wife, leads him to betray his king and sets in motion the fatal events that end Arthur's rule.

It seemed that Gaius actually did die but Merlin arrived and, enraged by the death of his friend and mentor, slew Nimueh.
